Dow Chemical Veteran Joins BChinaB
BCB Press Desk - March 27, 2002

NEW YORK, NEW YORK. -March 27, 2002-BChinaB, Inc., the largest US contract manufacturing firm in China, today announced that James Culp, a 23-year veteran of Dow Chemical Company, has joined the firm as Senior Vice President. Representing more than 800 contract manufacturers in Mainland China and featured in a recent The Wall Street Journal article, BChinaB sources high-volume, quality-assured products in China by managing the entire supply chain of an order - from raw material purchase to manufacturing to export. For distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and other buyers of goods and materials in the United States, BChinaB is the leading source of plastic semi- and finished goods from China.

"We are delighted to have Jim's wisdom and expertise," said Jeremy Haft, BChinaB's co-chairman and President. " A brilliant Ph.D. chemist who can also grow and run business is a rarity."

Culp brings over 25 years experience to BCB in starting up, operating, and re-engineering business, manufacturing, and supply chain activities in the chemicals and plastics industry. Jim is a 23-year veteran of the Dow Chemical Company, where he served in research (power instrumentation and activated sludge), manufacturing (chlor-alkali and solvents), supply chain (N.A. polycarbonate & blends), and business development (recycled plastics), serving in a number of executive posts, including Senior Vice President. At Dow, among various assignments, Culp was responsible for starting up and growing subsidiary business units and joint ventures, including Dow's first chlorine metal anode cell operations and a $100M Dow environmental joint venture. Culp served on the Board of Directors of Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (AERT), which develops, manufactures and markets composite building materials. Jim holds a B.S. in Chemistry from University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A & M.

About BChinaB

In 1999, a couple of highly successful entrepreneurs, one a native of China, were searching for a way to help China modernize its obsolete, under-funded, distribution system -- the foremost bottleneck in China's thriving market economy.

During the course of three rounds of exhaustive, national market research, co-chairmen Jeremy Haft and William Xin found that the Chinese plastics industry, in particular, is highly privatized and growing fast, fueled by strong, sustained domestic and international demand. Their research demonstrated that by aggregating plastic product manufacturers across verticals -- an innovation that has yet to occur in China -- significant efficiencies could be achieved in the way that plastics are bought and sold, thereby helping to restructure a highly fragmented market.

The groundwork paid-off. By aggregating Chinese plastics manufacturers, BChinaB is today the leading sourcing channel in the plastics sector: offering US industrial customers a vast array of cost-efficient products, while also providing US sellers of raw materials a new sales channel into Mainland China.
